Rumor of an emerging Goosebumps movie at Sony has been swirling for some time now, but if this first piece of information regarding the film’s production is true, it marks a huge step toward actually making it to theaters.

Director Rob Letterman (Monsters VS. Aliens, Gulliver’s Travels) is currently negotiating with Sony to helm the film according to Deadline. Letterman has done more than just Monsters VS. Aliens though, he reportedly also wrote the script for Paranormalists as well as The Disappeared, so taking on the young adult horror franchise should be easy for him.

Although the Goosebumps fan base is certainly an excellent reason to devise a film around the popular set of books, fans have to wonder exactly how they plan on pulling this off. Since the books aren’t sequential (the monsters, locations and characters change from book to book), which book will they adapt for the screen?

Will they begin with Goosebumps #1, Welcome to Dead House? Will they instead come up with a completely different story and just use the Goosebumps name as a selling point? Do they intend to mix a few of the stories together ala Series of Unfortunate Events?

It’s all a mystery at the moment, but we just hope that the film delves into the stories presented by R.L. Stine rather than just having a typical monster movie masquerading as a Goosebumps movie.

Which ‘Goosebumps’ book would you like to see make it to the big screen?
