Good news for all the kids of the ’90s: Digimon Adventures is returning as Digimon Adventures Tri! Fifteen years ago the seven (later eight) digidestined found themselves on File Island where they would embark on an adventure through the digiworld with their digimon companions. Now they are set to return this fall!

Taking place six years after the original series and three years after Digimon Adventures 02 (two years in the English Dub) Tai and his friends reunite with their digimon to protect the Digiworld from a new evil.

Instead of a sequel anime series, the anniversary addition will be a six-part theatrical film series. A teaser trailer for the first film has been released.

The teaser doesn’t reveal too much. It starts off with Tai talking to Agumon about how the world has chosen a reality and future that shouldn’t have been chosen. We then get a glimpse at the new look of the older digidestined and their Japanese voice actors as well as the possible new villain.

The teaser is pretty packed with nostalgia. Tai’s trademark goggles make their return along with the original digivices. We see Greymon and Kuwagamon battling out at an airport as well Omnimon battling a new enemy. There is also a hint at the return of the rivalry between Matt and Tai. It ends with Kari’s trademark whistle and Tai telling Agumon he’s returned.

The first film, named Reunion, is set to premier November 21 in Japan. No word yet on which English Anime studio is going to pick up Digimon Adventures Tri, but you should still be able to catch the Japanese version close to that date!
