A new report says actor Diego Luna has joined the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One.

Casting news for Star Wars: Rogue One continues to roll in. All of the casting announcements so far have been very promising, and this is no different.

According to Variety, Luna will join Star Wars: Rogue One in a lead role. He is expected to play a rebel fighter alongside Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, with Ben Mendelsohn playing the role of the villain. Sam Claflin was also previously rumored to star, but as of this time he hasn’t joined the cast.

Luna is a veteran actor, and some of his best known performances came in the films Milk, The Terminal, Elysium, and Y Tu Mamá También. He’s also started directing lately, and his most recent film Cesar Chavez was released last year.

We have to say, the casting of Star Wars: Rogue One has been quite diverse so far. Of course we’d like to see a few more women cast, but as far as big movies of this size go, the diversity of this cast is on levels only seen in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Star Wars: Rogue One will be the first Star Wars film after The Force Awakens, and it will be the first of what are officially being referred to as the Star Wars Anthology films. Each film will stand apart from the main Star Wars story and feature a different aspect of the universe.

Rogue One will be the story of how the Rebel Alliance stole the plans to the first Death Star. The story will take place between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars, but it will be closer in the timeline to the latter film.
