Film adaptations of Greek mythology always make interesting movies, and it looks as if Die Hard director Renny Harlin will be turning the story of Hercules into a 3D film!

THR is reporting that Millennium is creating Herclues 3D, a project with a $70 million budget. Production will start this May for a March 2014 release. It seems as if it’ll be an epic, battle-fighting Troy or Gladiator-esque film, as Harlin stated, “It’s not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing. It’s closer to Gladiator than flying horses.”

Interestingly, it’s already been announced that MGM and Paramount are teaming together to create another Hercules film, which is due out in August 2014. The MGM/Paramount Herclues is directed by Brett Ratner and stars Dwayne Johnson. Sounds like it’ll be something similar to the Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman competition! However, in good business, Harlin hopes MGM/Paramount have a successful film, as well:

“I think these are very different kinds of movies in their approach to this legendary character. Obviously, Hercules has been portrayed in many different films, such as the Disney animated movie. I wish them luck. Ancient Greek mythology is an endless source of good stories … Let’s see both movies be successful.”

Harlin’s Hercules 3D has yet to be cast, and there are eight leading spots to fill.

What do you think about two Hercules films in 2014? Who would you like to see cast in Millennium’s film?
