A lengthy article from Variety on franchises taking over theme parks appears to suggest that Diagon Alley will be opening on Friday, June 20.

In the second paragraph of the article released last night, Variety says “Universal is teaming with Warner Bros. to open Diagon Alley, a faithful re-creation of the London location from the ‘Harry Potter’ films, on June 20.

If true, Diagon Alley’s opening date aligns with rumors and other information that has surfaced in recent weeks. For example, in May, Universal announced a new vacation package thatlets you visit Diagon Alley as early as June 29. Click here to learn more about these new vacation packages.

The theme park has not offered a more specific opening date than “summer” over the past few months.

Adding fuel to the opening-date-rumor fire: The Tonight Show will be taping a week of episodes at Universal from June 16 – 19 and will feature Diagon Alley. A media event will be taking place that same week.

Despite staying quiet on the formal opening, Universal has been unveiling new features of Diagon Alley at a steady pace. On Wednesday they announced that you’ll be able to convert real money into Gringotts bank notes for use within Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. Last week they shared the new food and drink options that will be available at eateries like The Leaky Cauldron.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley will feature a Gringotts thrill ride and a real Hogswarts Express. The latter will transport guests to and from the existing Hogsmeade land at Islands of Adventure.

Yesterday, Harry Potter actors Bonnie Wright, Oliver Phelps, and James Phelps toured Diagon Alley and took lots of selfies to document their trip. A video of their visit was released by Universal this afternoon. In it, we get a first look at the Hogswarts Express pulling into one of the train stations and numerous other sneak peeks:
