Unsure whether to believe the hype surrounding Blizzard’s Diablo III? A starter edition of the game will give players the chance to determine that for themselves – free of charge.

For the first 30 days after Diablo III’s release tomorrow, the starter edition will only be available to download for those with guest passes. If you know someone who’s purchased a physical copy of Diablo III, ask them nicely and they might share a guest pass with you.

No luck? Once the 30 days are up anyone will be able to download the game client and play the starter edition. The demo will cover content up to the Skeleton King in Act I and characters will have a level cap of 13. The matchmaking feature will only be usable with other starter edition players, and you won’t be able to access the real money auction house.

This seems like a great promotional move on Blizzard’s part and it’ll give players the chance to try before they buy. Want more details? Head over to Battle.net support.

Will you be taking advantage of the starter edition?
