Nominated for her role in last seasons Dexter as Lumen, Julia Stiles has been doing the press rounds talking about her time on the hit Showtime show.

Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed that she liked the kiling scenes saying, “I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the kill scenes and the sacredness of them. As a fan of the show, I felt very privileged to be a part of them.” The star goes on to say, “In the kill room, when she first gets to put the knife in. That was really special.”

A small snippet from the interview can be read below, with the rest available on the Hollywood Reporter website.

THR: The fact that Lumen ultimately got to kill someone is what sealed the deal for you to take the part?

Stiles: Yes, the idea that she wasn’t just the victim. I was really excited by the idea that she would be involved in Dexter’s secret life, as opposed

THR: What was the most challenging aspect of playing a victim-turned-revenge killer like Lumen?

Stiles: I never think of myself as an actor who takes work home with them, but I was surprised, especially toward the end of the season — around episode 10 — when some of the details of what Lumen had experienced became really harrowing, and I started to realize that it was affecting me outside of work. One scene in particular, in episode 10, when the detectives have found DVDs showing what has happened to the victims — it was really dark. It made it more difficult for me to sleep.

Stiles has also been talking to the Chicago Tribune in which she diccusses Lumen’s breakup with Dexter, her time on the show and the possibility of a return. A small extract can be seen below.

Q: So … Lumen’s breaking up with Dexter caught you off guard?

A: I was very surprised. I thought everything we had been building toward over the course of the season — the trust and connection between Lumen and Dexter — was just thrown away. I had a hard time understanding that. Their vigilante justice was so romantic in a perverse way.

Q: Did you raise your hand and say anything?

A: It’s not my job to critique the writing. I’m there to serve it. I had to figure out a way to make it work.

Q: Theoretically, Lumen could still come back next season.

A: I … uh … honestly, I have no idea. That’s out of my jurisdiction.

Interesting stuff! Would you like to see Stiles reprise her role as the former rape-victim turned vigilante?

Season 6 of Dexter is currently being filmed and will hit our screens later this year.
