The Earth Day Detective Pikachu trailer reminds us what a beautiful world we live in. Check out many first looks at various earthy Pokémon in the live-action trailer.

In the Earth Day trailer, there are more reveals of Pokémon live-action models, including Treeko, Squirtle (previously seen on a missing poster) and Pangoro.

The trailer is set to Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” and has a melancholic, almost nostalgic tone. The Pokémon all look happy, if not a bit longing.

We are brought back to the scene where Tim carries an injured Detective Pikachu through the Morelull river (“Red roses too, I see them bloom, for me and you”). It’s touching, and is a pretty strong emotional beat.

The Detective Pikachu promotional content released before this trailer was typically very funny, action-packed, and full of one-liners.

While Pikachu does get in a bit of a joke at the end of the trailer (“Listen, kid. I know this much: if your dad was here, he’d hug you so hard your bones would pop.”) it’s followed by Tim crying silent tears as Pikachu looks mournfully on at the grieving child.

Detective Pikachu is a new story set in the overarching Pokémon universe. The film takes place in a Rhyme City, where trainers and Pokémon accompany each other on everything from daily errands to epic adventures. Sounds like a dream come true, eh?

Ryan Reynolds, the actor that lends his voice to the titular yellow Pokémon, tweeted out the following this morning, revealing the emotional trailer.

For an actor known for his Deadpool-esque cheeky jokes, that sure is a sober message.

Detective Pikachu hits theatres this May 10.
