With first looks at some of the Pokémon from the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie, these Detective Pikachu cards are must-sees.

The live-action Detective Pikachu cards all showcase new renders of the film’s Pokémon, giving fans a first look at some new models in the world of Rhyme City.

Other Detective Pikachu cards give us a neat look into how the TCG set will give players the ability to build new teams based off the latest in the popular trading card game’s merchandise line.

It seems as though the Pokémon Company is taking fan favorites into account here, as popular characters from the Detective Pikachu trailer have some really neat looking TCG art that has yet to be seen before.

If you’re a fan of the PTCGO, rest assured that there are digital codes included in purchases of both the booster packs and deck builds of the Detective Pikachu TCG packages.

As the ever-popular Pokémon series enters the summer season of its 23rd year, the marketing team has been slowly releasing some HQ looks at the Detective Pikachu TCG cards.

Take a gander at some of the best Detective Pikachu cards before the film’s release to satiate your thirst for even more live-action Pokémon reveals.

The coolest ‘Detective Pikachu’ cards from the TCG line

Mewtwo ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

The Mewtwo Detective Pikachu cards will feature an earth-shattering attack in Psychic Nova GX. It’s a move that does a whopping 180 hit points, and only costs two Psychic and two more of any energy type cards. It preventing damage in the next turn makes for a great setup in drawing more cards into your hand, or even taking out the next Pokémon to be sent out from your opponent’s bench.

After you’ve used your one GX move of the match, coming in with Reigning Pulse, with 120 hit points and an added confusion status ailment, is sure to be the insult to injury for this 190 HP Psychic Cat legendary.

The art of Mewtwo looks a bit… wrinkly. It’s neat, and as we had our first look at the live-action model of Mewtwo in a Detective Pikachu trailer, we can see how this hairless cat model will look when it’s interacting with the world around itself.

Arcanine ‘Detective Pikachu’ card (model reveal)

The draw to the Arcanine card is its Security Guard ability. With it, players are protected from all moves by 30 more hit points. This added defense, of course, is applied after the weakness/resistance multipliers for each given team member.

From the look of the art on the Arcanine card, one could assume that it will play a guard role in for the Rhyme City Police Department. “Legends tell of its fighting alongside a general and conquering a whole country.” Sounds like the kind of partner Pokémon that I’d like to have on my side!

Ditto ‘Detective Pikachu’ card (model reveal)

The most significant aspect of this Ditto TCG card is it being the first time that we see the copy ‘mon in the live-action film’s art style. Honestly, it looks a lot like it does in the anime, but maybe it will look a bit different when it’s actively in motion in the movie.

Mr. Mime ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

Mr. Mime’s Pantomime ability has the potential to really transform TCG battles. Allowing the player to pick and choose which Prize cards are available for an opponent to claim allows for the preservation of your most valuable cards.

The Mr. Mime description further explores his ability, describing the following: “Its pantomime skills are wonderful. You may be enraptured while watching it, but next thing you know, Mr. Mime has made a real wall.”

Ludicolo ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

This Ludicolo card is a handy one, in that the ability Table Service gives a beefy healing to your team members. It’s fairly tanky with its 140 HP, and would give you the opportunity to heal up a heavy hitter on your team before switching them back in with the Punch and Run move.

Ludicolo is a fun Pokemon, even with its vacant stare and somewhat unintelligent personality. “If it hears festive music, all its muscles fill with energy,” says the ‘mon’s entry. “It can’t help breaking out into a dance.”

Machamp ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

Machamp has always been a personal favorite in the PTCG, in that his low energy requirements make for a fast-hitting Fighting-Type that can also take a hit. The Directing Traffic move gives players the ability to shuffle around the oncoming cards in their deck, making for quite the unique strategizing experience.

The live-action model for Machamp is taken right from a recent reveal in a Detective Pikachu trailer. If the name of its first move didn’t already give it away, this four-armed anthropomorphic creature will be a crossing guard in the live-action film.

Psyduck ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

Relatable content: “Using psychokinesis gives it a headache, so it normally passes the time spacing out and doing as little as possible.”

The Psyduck Detective Pikachu card doesn’t really have any use, but is sure to be a cute treat for any fans of the confused Psychic-Type duck Pokémon. It’s going to be a Pokémon that is fairly heavily featured in the upcoming film, as the female protagonist carries it around as her main partner-Pokémon.

Detective Pikachu ‘Detective Pikachu’ card

If this isn’t the most perfect description for the titular character of the movie, then I don’t know what is. “He loves to show off his vast knowledge. This expressive Pikachu is like a middle-aged man.”

It’s a bit of a jab to include the “middle-aged man” line, seeing as actor Ryan Reynolds voices the electric rodent. Players might find use in his Scout attack, and if push came to shove, I’m sure Lady Luck might give a player an advantage in the somewhat hefty but 50/50 accurate Surprise Attack.

The ‘Detective Pikachu’ cards are now available for purchase

Retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target are now carrying the Detective Pikachu line of the TCG. The film itself is set to release on May 10, 2019.
