Sunday hosted a big night of television, no doubt. This morning we told you that the Grammys were the most watched since 1984, and now we’re learning that The Walking Dead’s midseason premiere had an equally impressive turnout.

The show set a basic cable record!

The Walking Dead pulled in 8.4 million viewers, which is an all-time high for any basic cable channel.

The past few years have been very good to AMC. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead have all performed extraordinarily well for the network.

Last night’s episode certainly provided enough excitement to garner those ratings. The show has been off for months and is now in its home stretch to finish the sophomore season.

In related news, AMC released last night’s ep online for free viewing right here.
