Designated Survivor has found a new home at Netflix!

Fans itching to find out what’s next for President Kirkman will have to switch over to Netflix to find out.

The online streaming platform announced via a press release sent out on Wednesday (September 5) that they have officially picked up political drama Designated Survivor for a third season.

Season 3 will be comprised of 10 episodes total and will find Kiefer Sutherland returning as President Kirkman as he faces the daunting task of political campaigning.

According to the official synopsis for the forthcoming season, the new crop of episodes will explore what it takes to make a leader, and how far Kirkman is willing to go to secure his title.

It also sounds like season 3 won’t be shying away from pulling from real life sources as they explore the world of political campaigns.

“This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance, and “fake news,” promises the press release. “Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”

In a statement announcing Designated Survivor’s upcoming Netflix debut, executive producer Mark Gordon said he’s looking forward to telling more of President Kirkman’s story — one he says hasn’t finished being told yet.

“The continuation of the show via Netflix is a win-win for all involved,” said Gordon. “The story of President Kirkman and those around him as not been fully told and we look forward to working with our new partner in continuing the show for a global audience.”

Additionally, Sutherland chimed in saying, “I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible.”

Production on season 3 of the series is set to pick back up later this year, with season 3 expected to premiere via Netflix sometime in 2019.

In the meantime, viewers who want to catch up on the show can look forward to seasons 1 and 2 coming exclusively to Netflix in the U.S. and Canada later on this Fall.
