New Deepwater Horizon trailer and stills mostly show the calm before the storm in this film about the 2010 BP oil spill.

The synopsis for the movie reads, “On April 20th, 2010, the world’s largest man-made disaster occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), this story honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.”

The movie stars Mark Wahlberg as Mike Williams, Kurt Russell as Jimmy Harrell, John Malkovich as Vidrine, Gina Rodriguez as Andrea, Dylan O’Brien as Hollywood, and Kate Hudson as Felicia.

New images mostly show off Wahlberg, but we get some great shots of Kurt Russel and Dylan O’Brien, as well. The epic poster for the movie is also below.

J.C. Chandor was initially tapped to direct, but walked away, citing creative differences. Wahlberg then recruited Peter Berg, and the movie was rewritten to change its focus from a political drama to a “true story action drama.” Matthew Michael Carnahan and Matthew Sand wrote the script.

This is quite a big movie for relative newcomer Dylan O’Brien, who has gained a devout fanbase thanks to Teen Wolf and the Maze Runner franchise he’s currently spearheading. Though he’s worked opposite some big names before, Deepwater Horizon feels like it’s in a whole other class. He’ll have no problem holding his own against the likes of Wahlberg and Hudson, and we’re excited to see him do so.

In the meantime, he’s been working on the final Maze Runner movie, The Death Cure. Four days into filming, however, he suffered an injury that has now halted production on the movie. O’Brien will make a full recovery in a few weeks and return to set shortly thereafter.

Deepwater Horizon will hit cinemas on September 30.
