Editor’s Note: The following is a rebuttal to this shocking user post which we had shared yesterday.

I recently saw a Hypable user post claiming that Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is not worthy of an Oscar. It’s always been said there are two sides to every argument. They have given theirs, so now allow me to share mine.

I am a giant Harry Potter fan, let me make that clear. I have read all the books and have seen all the films multiple times. I went to midnight book launches and midnight screenings. I love JK Rowling and her great creation. Nevertheless, saying Deathly Hallows – Part 2 does not deserve an Oscar because it does not follow the source material is unfair to the film.

The previous post brought forth no arguments: just opinions. Here are multiple reasons why Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (DH2) deserves a shot at the Oscars.

– Let’s start with the technical awards. How many films have we seen the beauty of Hogwarts put onto screen? The wonderful and elaborate costumes? The magnificent sets? The magical soundtracks? Now, how many times have special effects, production design, costume design, or soundtracks won for Potter? None. No one can deny that as far as technicalities go, DH2 is near the top at every field.

– The film itself is worthy of an Oscar nomination. The Oscars are not based on whether a movie is like the book it was based on. That’s for fans who can not understand the difference between book and film. There are many other factors.

– On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 96% among critics and a 100% among top critics. Yes, you heard that right, a 100% among top critics. MANY previous Best Picture winners have not reached that number.

– The film also has the highest score with the BFCA: 93. So that’s two critic review websites showing DH2 as the highest rated film, yet people still believe it is unworthy of winning an Oscar?

– There is a difference between cinema and literature. They are two different forms of art. Saying a movie is bad because the book it was based on is better is senseless. It would be the same to say if someone wrote a song about the Mona Lisa and calling it horrid simply because it doesn’t match the beauty of the actual painting. Music and portraits are also different forms of art. You must also be comparing an orange to a toothbrush, a shark to a cellphone, a nail filer to a disco ball. There is no just reason to compare. As a film alone, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 wipes away the others in the series with scenes unlike any other. Emotion and action: the two-hit K.O.

– And then there are the comparisons to LOTR. People never understand: LOTR was one single production with one director and one team. Harry Potter was 8 different productions with 4 directors with an ending unknown until the filming of the sixth movie. Dare you still compare the situations?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 deserves to win awards, specifically at the Oscars, not only because it is the best rated film of the year by fans and critics, but because of the 10 year emotional journey the films took us on.

The books took us on a journey inside our minds. The films took us on a journey on the screen. Appreciate both for the magic they are.
