We have just learned that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 sold out every 3D domestic midnight screening in the US, shattering previous records for midnight releases by bringing in a staggering $43.5 million!

Variety reports that Harry Potter blew the previous record holder, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, out of the water, the latter only bringing in £30 million for its midnight premiere.

Dan Fellman, the Warner Bros. domestic proxy, says of the new record:

What an incredible beginning for the movie that ends it all. Everyone at Warner Bros. joins me in congratulating the many people behind the ‘Harry Potter’ films. We know this is just the start of what promises to be an astounding weekend and a magical summer.

The midnight premiere of Deathly Hallows was shown on more than 3,800 screens in the US, and worldwide it earned $82.5 million in just two days. Now the film is shown in 4,375 locations, and it is expected to rival The Dark Knight‘s intake of $158 in the first three days.
