Maze Runner director Wes Ball recently revealed some of the first details about the third installment, The Death Cure.

The Maze Runner franchise has been barreling along ever since the film series first debuted in September 2014. Proving itself to be a commercial success, 20th Century Fox leaned into the series’ marketability and plunged forward with plans to create its sequel.

Although The Scorch Trials hasn’t debuted in theaters yet, plans for the third installment are already well under way.

Director of the three films, Wes Ball, spoke with Collider in a recent interview and revealed that The Death Cure is set to begin filming sometime in February 2016.

The tentative plan is to film in Vancouver, and he has big ideas for the overall look of the movie. “It’s gonna be a very different movie,” he shared. “We’re not gonna be in the same kind of setting anymore. We’re gonna go a little bit more future, do something a little gritty, a little film noir almost. It’s gonna be cool.”

The director also mentioned that the movie itself will be, “A different kind of an engine, a different kind of genre almost and a different sort of color palette and terrain.”

During the interview Ball revealed that the plot is set to pick up about a year in the future as well. “This next one will be cool because we’re gonna cut maybe a year later,” he said. “Yeah, so it’ll be cool. Some things have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger.”
