Netflix has renewed the critic and fan-favorite show Dear White People, so get ready for a third season, heading to your Netflix queues soon.

Dear White People, a series based on a 2014 film of the same name, both written by Justin Simien, was just renewed by Netflix for a third season. The show has not only proven to be engaging TV that is also a hugely important show in terms of diversity, but it has also helped debunk the often-debated (albeit wildly incorrect) idea that television shows and movies with a cast made of mainly of people of color can’t rake in big ratings.

The show has been a huge success, and a critics darling since it first premiered. Fans are also just as obsessed with the collegiate dramedy. Not only did the first season pull in solid viewing numbers, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s second season avoided a sophomore slump and generally pulled in better numbers than the first season.

So while Netflix has been flexing its cancellation muscles quite a lot lately, it’s great to see them agree with fans that Dear White People is a genuinely brilliant show that has more story to tell.

Additionally, Netflix has also been pushing to support the show more in the awards arena. As THR explains, Netflix made a concerted effort to push the series in its “For Your Consideration” efforts for the 2018 Emmy Awards.

While Dear White People does share a name and screenwriter with the 2014 film, the series is largely a fresh reimagining of the story. So if you’ve never checked out the show, now is the time! While some actors played the same roles in the film and the show, Netflix’s Dear White People is led by Logan Browning, who plays the role Tessa Thompson portrayed in the movie.

We’re so happy that Netflix has given a season 3 to this great show, and we can’t wait to see what stories the show will bring us in volume 3.
