With just a couple of days to go until Deadpool opens in theaters, a sequel to the likely-to-be-a-huge-hit Marvel movie is already in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Deadpool 2 is already being penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first movie for Fox. The reviews so far are largely glowing (it currently has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes), so bringing the writing duo back for the sequel was an obvious choice.

“Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together,” THR adds, meaning that Deadpool director Tim Miller will be back for the sequel — if the studio gets their way.

Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds is currently tracking to make “at least” $65 million over the Valentine’s Day weekend, further proving that a sequel is a must-do for Fox, who’ve struggled to find success in comic movies that don’t have the word “X-Men” in the title.

It’s possible that Fox will make an announcement concerning Deadpool 2 after the first movie hits theaters this weekend. It’d be a great way to cap off what’s shaping up to be a great month for the beloved comic character.

Also opening in theaters over Valentine’s Day is Zoolander 2 starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, and How To Be Single starring Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie, Rebel Wilson, and Leslie Mann. Despite the star power in the competition, Deadpool is expected to win the weekend box office.

Speaking of Deadpool, we received this sweet (literally) Valentine’s Day gift from the Merc with the Mouth today. Thanks dude!

Oh #Deadpool, you're too good to us ❤️

“Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life,” reads a synopsis for the movie. Watch the (red-band!) trailer below:
