Deadpool fans rejoice! Thanks to a change-up in release schedules, it looks like we’ll be seeing Deadpool 2 released in theaters a bit earlier than expected!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has switched up released dates for a handful of X-Men movies, including this summer’s highly anticipated Deadpool sequel.

Though originally slated to hit theaters on June 1, it looks like the Merc With A Mouth will actually be making his way to the silver screen on May 18 instead. That’s two full weeks earlier than we originally anticipated, which we’re sure is bound to make fans of Deadpool incredibly happy!

As part of the release date shake up, director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants has also been given a brand new release date. Instead of being released on April 13, the upcoming superhero flick has been pushed back 10 months to February 22, 2019.

As sad as we are to hear that we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, and Anya Taylor-Joy in action in New Mutants, Fox has a pretty good reason for pushing the release date on the project back so far.

According to THR, an unnamed insider revealed that a huge motivator in Fox moving release dates around was to ensure there wouldn’t be too much overlap between New Mutants and Deadpool 2. Specifically, the studio was worried about the films being so close together that they’d end up in the theater at the same time in certain overseas markets.

Last, but certainly not least, Fox’s highly anticipated Gambit solo movie starring Channing Tatum also has a new release date. The film has been pushed back from February 14, 2019 to June 7, 2019.

A new release date for Gambit shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to fans who’ve been following production on the film closely. The move comes hot off the heels of Thursday’s big news in which we learned that Gore Verbinksi will no longer be serving as Gambit’s director.

The loss of Verbinski came as a huge blow to fans who were hoping Gambit wouldn’t suffer any more stalls, but the fact that Fox has only pushed the tentative release date back a few months seems to be somewhat of a silver lining.

More importantly, perhaps it means that the studio already has a few ideas with regards to who might be helming the project now that Verbinski won’t be directing anymore.
