DC Comics is officially diving into the world of online streaming platforms.

The popular comic book company took to Twitter on Wednesday (May 2) to announce the release of DC Universe, an online platform the company is billing as “the ultimate DC membership.”

“DC Universe is a first-of-its kind, immersive digital experience designed just for DC fans,” wrote the company via their official website. “One of the many incredible things your membership will include is unlimited access to the following exclusive original series.”

The idea of an immersive experience is undoubtedly bound to pique the interest of diehard fans of the universe, but it’s clear that the most exciting part of this news is the slew of original series DC Comics already has in the works for their new online streaming platform.

In addition to the announcement, they also revealed a series of titles set to premiere via the new platform along with some title cards for the shows.

Current series coming down the pipeline over on DC Universe include Titans, Swamp Thing, Young Justice: Outsiders, and Harley Quinn.

As exciting as we’re sure it is to learn that DC is planning to give some of their biggest characters their own series, there’s one part of the announcement that’s already troubling fans.

As many on Twitter have been pointing out, DC’s DC Universe is just one of a plethora of other online streaming platforms that many of us already willingly pay for each month.

Aside from bigger entities like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix (home to many of Marvel’s television titles), there are also plenty of other companies looking to get into the game.

Most notably, we learned just last year that Disney is already working on their own online streaming platform and much like DC Universe, they’re hoping to rope fans into the subscription service by promising a slew of exclusive original content.

Currently, there’s no word yet on how much it’ll cost to sign up, or when DC Universe plans to officially launch.
