Get ready for more DC content on your TV! Syfy is working to develop a Krypton spin-off based on the DC Comics character Lobo.

Season 2 of the Syfy show Krypton just premiered, and while we’re excited to see the return of the series, the appearance of a big name from DC Comics has everyone talking. The show’s second season features an appearance by the alien bounty hunter Lobo, and his arrival on the show is much more than a cool inclusion of classic comics characters. It’s actually setting up a spin-off.

According to Variety, NBC Universal has announced that it will be developing a Lobo series for Syfy. The “ultimate bastich” of the DC universe is being portrayed by Emmett J. Scanlan on Krypton, and it is expected that Scanlan will portray the character in the standalone series as well.

For those unfamiliar with the comics, Lobo is a pretty cool character to get expanded in his own TV show. While the character’s first introduction to the comics in the 80s was as a villain, he began to morph into quite the iconic, foul-mouthed anti-hero similar to the dark, broodier anti-heroes like Marvel’s The Punisher. Lobo is also known as one of the strongest and most dangerous individuals in the DC Comics ‘verse.

Syfy released a clip showing us Scanlan’s version of Lobo, which you can check out below.

There’s no word just yet on when the series is set to begin production or any other casting news. However, we do know that just as he does with Krypton, Cameron Welsh is set to write and executive produce the series.

The news of the Lobo series comes on the heels of the disappointing cancellation of DC’s Swamp Thing. So while we still have a lot of questions surrounding DC’s choice to ax Swamp Thing after airing only one episode, it is still nice to see the world of DC TV shows expanding in other areas.

You can watch this season of Krypton, Wednesdays on Syfy, to see how Lobo is introduced into Syfy’s DC universe, and stay tuned for more news about the Lobo standalone series.
