David Tennant and Judi Dench will participate in a William Shakespeare celebratory gala, which is to be streamed live on the BBC.

“I would give all my fame for a pot of ale.” – Henry V.

Prepare for a celebration like no other, for Shakespeare is dead, and he has been for a remarkable number of years. Naturally, this calls for a toast!

This is the sound and impeccable logic behind The BBC’s upcoming Shakespeare celebration, Shakespeare Live! (wonder where they got that name from, hmmmmm), hosted by Doctor Who and Shakespearean actor David Tennant.

Radio Times writes that the event will be broadcast during the weekend of Shakespeare’s birthday, from 22-24 of April 2016, to mark the 400-year anniversary of his death.

Dame Judi Dench and Joseph Fiennes are among the talents set to participate, and we’re sure Britain’s finest will be more than ready to jump in and take part. In fact, we’re not actually sure there are any actors in Britain who have not at one point done a Shakespeare play.

The BBC is doing a lot more to celebrate Shakespeare this year, including broadcasting Russell T. Davies’ version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (starring Matt Lucas, Richard Wilson and Maxine Peake), and The Hollow Crown history plays starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

For Shakespeare fans, this celebration event is a must-watch. Says BBC director-general Tony Hall, “Shakespeare’s in our DNA. For 90 years, we’ve been broadcasting his works to successive generations, but we’ve never done anything as daring, as adventurous, as we’re doing now.”
