The Internet was abuzz yesterday with the news that Jenna-Louise Coleman was selected as the new Doctor Who companion. Fan reaction has ranged from outright support to dismissive comments regarding Coleman “looking too bombshell for the part.”

Arguably one of the show’s biggest fans – not to mention being a fan favorite himself – is now chiming in. David Tennant, The 10th Doctor, has voiced his support for Coleman. Speaking to MSN UK, Tennant stated:

“The people who make these decisions make them with great attention and love. The people behind the show wouldn’t have chosen her unless she’s the best girl for the job, so I’m excited to see her on the show.”

Many highly regard Tennant’s opinion and credit his portrayal of The Doctor for laying the groundwork for the global success story the series has become. In fact there are still fans who yearn for Tennant’s version of The Doctor over current Doctor Matt Smith. John Boyega, star of the UK series My Murder, expressed this sentiment just today in speaking with The Metro:

I haven’t had time to get into the new series with Matt Smith, so I’ve gone back to the beginning of all the episodes with David Tennant. He’s my favourite Doctor. The aliens that freaked me out most were the ones with the long-ass nails; they took over Parliament. You don’t want to mess with them, because they could take off someone’s limbs.

What do you think of David Tennant’s endorsement? Do you think it will sway naysayers?
