Netflix announced crime procedural Criminal, and it’s got serious star power behind it with the likes of David Tennant and Hayley Atwell.

Update 9/4/19: Netflix has officially dropped the full franchise trailer for Criminal. The new video highlights what makes the show incredibly unique: focusing on 12 unique crime stories that span across 4 different countries.

Each episode will take place in a police interrogation room, and viewers will learn the details of the crime as they unfold in the police questioning. Each of the stories come from actors and writers from that country, so we’ll get a firsthand view of crime and police work in these countries from individuals who actually live there.

Of course, we also can’t help but be excited about the cast. In addition to great actors across the globe, Criminal also stars Hayley Atwell and David Tennant.

The trailer just gives us a peek at their appearances, but we are so ready to see what they and the rest of the cast of Criminal bring to the table. You can check out the franchise trailer for yourself below.

Original Story 6/17/19: Netflix is bringing a new, original crime procedural our way called Criminal, and David Tennant and Hayley Atwell have signed on. The show will feature stories set in the U.K., Spain, Germany, and France, and will take place solely in the confines of a police interrogation room.

The streamer released a quick teaser announcing the cast of the show. Though the trailer doesn’t give us much info on what to expect from the “12 unique crime stories” that will be featured in Criminal, we’re incredibly excited to see this unique take on a crime procedural.

Criminal will be headed to Netflix this fall and will highlight stories in each country. Not only will the episodes focus on the subtle and overt cultural differences in how each country handles crime, but the episode will be in the native language of the country featured. Additionally, to ensure the episode is true to the region featured, Variety reports that each episode will have unique writing and directing staff from the area.

David Tennant and Hayley Atwell will be featured in the United Kingdom episode, but the cast includes Margot Bancilhon, Laurent Lucas and Stéphane Jobert from France; Eva Meckbach, Sylvester Groth, and Florence Kasumba from Germany; and Jorge Bosch, José Ángel Egido and Nuria Mencía from Spain.

We’re incredibly excited to check out this inventive new crime drama, and even more excited to see our faves like David Tennant and Hayley Atwell show up, even though these probably won’t be the most cheerful role for either actor. However, after seeing Tennant as the terrifying Kilgrave and Atwell in her gut-wrenching episode of Black Mirror, we can’t wait to see what their time on Criminal brings us.
