CBS announced earlier today that David Letterman would have a new show tonight, but it would not let in an audience in order to look out for everyone’s safety.

The network has now released a clip from tonight’s episode, recorded a couple hours ago, and it’s an interesting sight.

The show begins as normal with a sweeping shot of Letterman’s theater, but not a seat is filled. We then see a clip of the longtime host speaking with his band leader Paul Shaffer. They run through jokes they were prepared to use if they had an audience.

The Late Show with David Letterman airs tonight at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Numerous networks have canceled shows tonight because local news stations throughout the east coast will be providing extended live coverage of the hurricane. See a complete list of TV cancelations.
