Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have officially found a new home with Netflix.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, best known for creating HBO’s Game of Thrones, have inked an overall deal with Netflix.

The online streaming giant took to Twitter and announced the huge news via their See What’s Next account on Wednesday (August 7) afternoon.

It’s no secret that the Game of Thrones vets have been vetting offers from multiple studios for the past few months, so the fact that they finally settled on signing a deal with Netflix is a huge win for the online streaming giant.

The deal will find Benioff and Weiss writing, directing, and producing new projects for the online streaming platform. There’s currently no word on what genre the originals might fall into, but TV Line reports that the plan is for the duo to create entities “with an eye toward developing a ‘water cooler series’ in the vein of Thrones.”

Shortly after the deal was revealed, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos released a statement detailing how excited they were to have Benioff and Weiss on board.

“We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling,” said Sarandos. “We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

Netflix’s deal with Benioff and Weiss is the latest in a string of overall exclusive deals the online streaming giant has secured over the past few years.

Other big names who’ve also recently signed exclusive overall deals with Netflix include television producers Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes, and former President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama.

We’ll be curious to find out what David Benioff and D.B. Weiss choose as their first project at Netflix.
