Critics aren’t being kind to Suicide Squad, but Director David Ayer couldn’t care less what they have to say about his film.

Earlier today we provided you a myriad of reviews for Warner Bros. and DC’s latest superhero movie, Suicide Squad, which feature a whole bunch of bad guys trying to do some good out of the kindness of their hearts. Or, you know, because the government will blow out their brains if they don’t.

The more positive reviews said the movie was fun and violent but to not expect anything more than that. The critics who really panned the film stated their disgust for the “highly fetishized violence” (Vanity Fair) and called Enchantress “the lamest DC villain” (Variety).

But Director David Ayer doesn’t really care what the critics think because, at the end of the day, he made it for himself and for the fans. Check out his tweets from Tuesday afternoon:

The English translation for Zapata’s quote reads, “I’d rather die on my feet, than live on my knees.”

It’s important to remember that while critics might not be a huge fan of Suicide Squad, it doesn’t mean the fans will also be throwing it to the wayside. There’s a reason why Rotten Tomatoes has both a critic rating and an audience score. And even then, RT has the movie sitting at a measly 38% while Metacritic has it standing almost 10 points higher at an average score of 47.

In other words, don’t let the opinion of others persuade your own. Give the movie a chance and come to a conclusion despite what the critics are saying.

Suicide Squad feels quite different from DC’s other recent liveaction films in that it’s much weirder and more colorful than we’ve seen from the studio in the past. Warner Bros. is clearly taking a leap of faith here, and hoping it pays off.

But Ayer is happy with the end result, and we’ve already heard about WB’s ideas of doing several Suicide Squad spinoff movies, and even one with an all-female cast starring Harley Quinn, Batgirl, and more.

Are you still excited for ‘Suicide Squad’ despite the negative reviews?
