Daveed Diggs and and Rafael Casal’s Blindspotting officially has a theatrical release date!

Deadline reports that following an initial opening night stint at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the buddy comedy Blindspotting will officially open in theaters later this summer.

The film, which was written by Hamilton star Daveed Diggs along with co-star Rafael Casal, was acquired by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment following its Sundance debut. The studios have settled on a limited release date of July 27, with plans to wide release the forthcoming film on August 10.

The film, which is set in Digg’s hometown of Oakland, finds Casal and Diggs playing childhood best friends who suddenly find themselves in a spot of trouble.

It’s especially a bit of a pickle for Diggs’ Collin, who’s just days away from the end of his probation and looking forward to putting the infamous arrest on his record behind him. His chance of starting over, however, winds up jeopardized after a life-changing missed curfew.

Diggs, who stole our hearts with his portrayal of Lafayette in Broadway’s smash hit Hamilton, is keeping pretty busy these days.

Since taking his leave from the hip-hop musical in July of 2016, Diggs has guest starred on television series such as The Get Down, Black-ish, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He also serves as executive producer on ABC’s The Mayor.

He’s also no stranger to the silver screen. Last year, Diggs co-starred in the feel-good family drama Wonder, and additionally lent his voice to the animated adaptation of Ferdinand.

Up next, the actor is set to star in the television adaptation of Snowpiercer for TNT.

As much fun as it’s been seeing Diggs appear as part of other ensemble casts, we’ll be looking forward to seeing him take center stage alongside Casal for Blindspotting when it hits theaters this summer.
