This weekend GLAAD hosted their annual Media Awards ceremony in Los Angeles and one performance in particular caught our attention. Glee star and musical talent Darren Criss rewrote the popular tune “Call Me Maybe” for the GLAAD audience and the LGBT community at large.

Once a year, the GLAAD Media Awards ceremony brings together a wide variety of celebrities, politicians, and activists to celebrate and pay tribute to those in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. At this year’s event, Darren Criss was one of those invited to perform for the LGBT group and their supporters.

Criss took to the stage and delivered his own rendition of “Call Me Maybe.” The singer-songwriter used his talents to rewrite the catchy pop tune and present something a bit more appropriate for the event. In the song, he renounces the Defense Against Marriage Act and encourages the Supreme Court to say “so long to Prop-8.” Criss also takes time to celebrate the end of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” and sings hopefully for the future of marriage equality. You can watch the video below to see the full performance:

Darren Criss Sings Out Against DOMA

This isn’t the first time Criss has made a socio-political statement through song. Last year at the Outfest Legacy Awards he chose to sing a very traditional song in a unique way. The singer preformed “Happy To Keep His Dinner Warm,” a tune originally intended for a woman to sing to her romantic interest. At this event however, the male vocalist took the opportunity to showcase that equality is about everyone having the chance to express their love through song – regardless of who the message is intended for.
