Fresh off the back of his own “Listen Up” live tour, Glee and StarKid fan favorite Darren Criss joins other musical acts to celebrate Independence Day at PBS’s annual “A Capitol Fourth” concert event in Washington, D.C.

“A Capitol Fourth,” the annual free concert performed on the west lawn of the United States Capitol Building, was broadcast live on PBS and NPR, as well as being attended by approximately half a million people in the nation’s capital city. Criss was just one amongst many celebrity performers.

This year’s concert featured Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow as headliners, and included performances by Smash star Megan Hilty and 2013’s American Idol winner, Candice Glover. Famed film score composer John Williams also conducted extracts from his original score for Lincoln.

Glee fans will remember “Shout,” performed by Darren Criss as Blaine and other cast members in the episode “Girls (and Boys) on Film,” as the show’s celebratory 500th musical number.

Criss joined the Fourth of July celebrations in Washington D.C. a few days after completing his sold out North American concert tour. The “Listen Up” tour – his first as a headlining artist – featured Criss backed up by a full live rock band – with stops in 16 cities.

He also recently performed at the Hollywood Bowl Summer Opening Ceremonies, and visited Paris for the European premiere of his first feature film, Girl Most Likely, starring and produced by Kristen Wiig. Criss also managed to fit in a concert for his French fans, playing acoustic versions of several new songs debuted on the “Listen Up” tour.
