Now that David Fincher is out of directing the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, Sony is moving on to new potential filmmakers for their Steve Jobs biopic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is in talks with Danny Boyle to direct their Steve Jobs biopic from a screenplay written by Aaron Sorkin based on Walter Isaacson’s biography. Boyle has yet to sign on, and he has reportedly approached Leonardo DiCaprio about starring as Jobs.

The Social Network director David Fincher was Sony’s first choice to direct the currently untitled Jobs biopic, but they backed away from because he wanted too much money and too much control. Fincher had reportedly wanted Christian Bale to play Jobs. Bale certainly looks more the part, but both actors are of the caliber where appearances are secondary.

Boyle previously directed DiCaprio in The Beach, which came out in 2000 and was not well received. The number of great films the pair have made separately since then are numerous, and working from a script from Sorkin would make this look like a much better bet.

Sorkin had been working on the script for some time, but he recently finished writing it. Assuming the script hasn’t changed dramatically since Sorkin spoke about it back in November of 2012, it will be a highly unusual biopic.

“This entire movie is going to be three scenes, and three scenes only, that all take place in real time,” Sorkin said. The three scenes he plans on including will all be backstage of a product launch, those of “the Mac, the second one being NeXT (after he had left Apple) and the third one being the iPod.”

Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio would make a good Steve Jobs?
