Daniel Radcliffe’s “farting corpse movie” isn’t off to the best start, with Sundance audiences walking out of the movie theater in protest.

Swiss Army Man is a dark comedy by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, starring Paul Dano and Dan Radcliffe.

Dano plays a lost man, who “befriends” a body which has washed up on shore. The body comes to life, and the pair share some peculiar adventures. The body also farts a lot.

Surprisingly (or maybe not?), audiences aren’t loving it. In fact, Digital Spy reports that a screening at Sundance Festival prompted several people to leave the theater.

“Whether it’s the farting which prompted the walkouts or the long discussions about masturbation, isolation and the meaning of life remains to be seen,” writes Digital Spy, which also notes that the inspiration for the film was very literally a fart joke.

Understandably, Swiss Army Man has received very mixed reviews so far, and Angie Han’s review for SlashFilm perfectly sums up why this is such a divisive moviegoing experience:

The [opening] scene is weird, and absurd, and crude, and dark, but kind of beautiful, too, and it’s at this point you have to make a decision: Either you’re willing to go with a movie that delights in all of those unsavory qualities, or you’re not. If you decide you’re not, know that Swiss Army Man will only get stranger and ruder, and you’re probably better off putting it back on the shelf until you’re in the mood for it.

We’re guessing the people that walked out of the theater decided that they just weren’t in the mood for a farting corpse movie.

Unfortunately Swiss Army Man doesn’t yet have a general release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
