Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter himself, is avoiding seeing Cursed Child on Broadway, and on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he finally explained why.

Ever since he was a child, Daniel Radcliffe was the face of the Harry Potter franchise. And now, even though the Wizarding World is expanding well beyond Harry Potter’s childhood story, fans still want to get Radcliffe’s take on the new movies and plays that are being added to the canon.

However, despite currently being in a Broadway show himself, The Lifespan of a Fact, Radcliffe has made it pretty clear that he has no intention to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

After being asked the question countless times and giving many different, gracious answers, Radcliffe finally explained the truth behind avoiding the show in a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. The actor explains why he’s avoiding returning to the Wizarding World as a spectator in this hilarious clip released by Late Night, and we’ve got to admit that he’s got pretty good reasons for steering clear of the show.

While some fans may have worried Radcliffe avoidance of Cursed Child was because of some feelings of ill-will towards the franchise or because the show’s storyline would throw him into an existential crisis over what happened to Harry Potter as an adult, it couldn’t be farther from the truth. In reality, Radcliffe is staying away out of respect for the show and the theater patrons.

And Meyers agreed, saying there couldn’t be a bigger distraction from the magic onstage than realizing you’re sitting a couple of seats away from the original Harry Potter. Of course, when Meyers suggested Radcliffe try attending the show in a disguise, Radcliffe quickly squashed that idea as well, explaining that as soon as the disguise stops working, you’re just “a dude who wore a disguise.”

So while many of the original cast from the Harry Potter flicks have made their way to Broadway and the West End to check out Cursed Child live, it seems Radcliffe won’t be headed to the show any time soon. And while we’re certain he’d absolutely be enthralled by the amazing theatrical display, we’re glad that he’s so concerned about distracting from such a visually and emotionally gripping piece of theater.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently on Broadway, and a new block of tickets are set to release on the play’s website on November 29.
