Hellboy may have just found its Ben Diamio in Daniel Dae Kim.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daniel Dae Kim is officially in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Hellboy reboot.

If cast, Kim would be taking over the role of Ben Diamio, a part which was previously slated to be played by actor Ed Skrien.

Skrein, who was originally cast to play Diamio in August, announced he would be walking away from the role just last week after the actor caught wind of the social media outcry surrounding his casting.

“It is clear that representing this character in a culturally accurate way holds significance for people, and that to neglect this responsibility would continue a worrying tendency to obscure ethnic minority stories and voices in the Arts,” wrote Skrein in a lengthy statement announcing his decision. “I feel it is important to honor and respect that.”

In addition to Skrein’s statement, Lionsgate released their own stating that they were looking into recasting the role of Ben Diamio “with an actor more consistent with the character in the source material.”

As exciting as it is to hear that Kim is currently in negotiations to star in Hellboy, news that he may be on the cusp of booking his next big acting role is also exciting for fans who’ve been following the actor’s journey over the last few months.

Kim, who many of us know from his work on Lost, recently walked away from CBS’ Hawaii Five-0. The Korean-American actor left the series after CBS denied the actor equal pay to the show’s stars.

We’re happy to hear that Kim has moved on to bigger and better projects, and we’re looking forward to potentially seeing what he brings to the role of Ben Diamio.

Hellboy, which also stars Stranger Things’ David Harbour, is due out sometime in 2018.
