We have a lot to discuss as Dancing with the Stars celebrated its 300th episode without any of its usual fanfare: a couple headed home, there was as much dancing as on a performance show, and there was an outbreak of robberies.

First things first: the couple heading home tonight, finishing in fifth place and without a shot at the Mirrorball Trophy, is… Ingo and Kym! I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve said this, but this elimination was obvious and felt inevitable. As much as Jacoby is overscored and Zendaya unfairly advantaged by dancing hip-hop, Ingo was the weakest dancer of the lot. He was not surprised by this elimination, meeting it with his usual equanimity and smile, and spoke out in support of the remaining couples. This was a very gracious exit.

This is Kym’s second time finishing in fifth place, but the first time she dreaded the supremely cruel elimination in the semifinals. She has experience with painful eliminations, though, having been the first professional to be runner up twice. Derek and Cheryl have experienced the semifinal finish more than any other pros, with three times each. Is finishing in fourth more painful than finishing in second? Discuss.

Statistics fun for the pros entering the finals: both Mark and Derek now tie Cheryl with six appearances in the finals. This makes Derek the first professional on the show to get to the finals more than half the time (six times out of eleven, 56%). Mark and Val both now have a 50% success rate (although, in fairness, Mark’s done it six times to Val’s two). The regular pros with the lowest success rates are Chelsie (zero finals in seven seasons) and Tristan (zero semifinals in four seasons). This is Karina’s third appearance in the finals out of 13 seasons, which really speaks to her bad luck in partners in her first nine seasons.

Derek’s success is probably why he was front row and center during the huge professional group number celebrating the show’s 300th episode. This number was fantastic, of course, not least because we got to see old favorites like Anna Trebunskaya, Louis, Dmitry, and Chelsie alongside all of this season’s pros and Troupe. (What, no Maks?) Those four, along with Cheryl and Tony, danced us in and out of commercial breaks. Maybe it’s just me, but they seem to have that extra little spark that the Troupe just doesn’t. Thoughts?

Was I the only one who was somewhat underwhelmed by this 300th episode celebration? The 100th and 200th episodes were met with ridiculous fanfare – counting down the best routines, dozens of returning contestants, former champs captaining teams and serving as guest judges, homages to the best routines… heck, at least some confetti! Aside from this one dance, it seemed like DwtS forgot to celebrate. And considering its 400th might not be for a long time (more on why below), seems like a missed opportunity.

Fittingly, Derek and Kellie did the encore for their Argentine Tango. The dance is phenomenal, and just as much fun the second time around. Gleb and Sharna performed a dance with lots of drama and lots of drapes flowing in the wind. The Wanted performed a ballad in order to plug ending world hunger, and Avril Lavigne performed a song about never growing up. Better yet, an adorable ten-year-old girl, who holds the world record for consecutive pirouettes (55!!!) performed with Chelsie and three other blondes. Not only is this girl absurdly talented, she’s also too adorable for words. I had so much fun watching her segment.

But not as much fun as I did with the outbreak of thievery on DwtS this week. Turns out, Mark threw Aly under the bus in a confessional yesterday, when he revealed that she’s been stealing bangles every week and has a dozen in her purse. This prompted Brooke to fess up to stealing a few for her children as well. Tom said, in what has to be the best line of the week, “I’m surrounded by spray-tanned kleptomaniacs!” Kellie, seeing she was in good company, promptly announced plans to steal her Argentine Tango wig.

Changes to results shows

Now, let’s get serious for a minute – because ABC just announced that there will be no more Tuesday night results shows! How dare they?! First they totally mess with this season by having a four-couple finale, and now they tell us there will be no more results? I don’t even know how the show will work without the results, since the public needs time to vote.

Now, I get that ABC needs room in its schedule (hence its axing of all my favorite shows: Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23, Happy Endings, last year’s GCB, etc.). But Dancing with the Stars is one of the top-rated shows every year, and deserves a results show. Admittedly, these results shows have become unbearably cluttered, because there is not enough material to fill an hour. So why not have a half-hour results show? Cut down on the repetitive recapping videos and the awkward “do you feel safe?” interviews mid-show. Reduce the number of musical guests, because not every singer with a new album needs to perform on the show. Maybe even get rid of the encore if pressed for time. There is no reason results can’t be done in half an hour, but to axe the results show entirely is dreadful, and I’m livid with ABC right now.

Will you miss the results shows next season? Will you miss Ingo and Kym next week? What are your predictions for the winner of season 16? I think Kellie and Derek will win it!
