Harry Potter star Dan Radcliffe has issued some criticisms against Warner Brothers and the film’s production team for continuing to employ Johnny Depp despite the allegations made against the Grindelwald actor.

In a new interview with EW, Radcliffe says that it’s “a very hard thing” for him to grapple with:

“I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that … I’m not saying anything that anybody hasn’t already said — and this is a weird analogy to draw — [but] in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people’s behavior that goes way beyond that and it’s tolerated because they’re very famous players.

“I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the [original Potter] film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that,” he said.

Radcliffe is referring to Crabbe actor Jamie Waylett, who was let go from the film series in 2009 when the actor was arrested for growing marijuana plants. Rather than recast Crabbe, Blaise Zabini (pictured below right) stepped up to become one of Draco’s partners in crime in Deathly Hallows.

Dan Radcliffe’s remarks are the latest in a line of trouble Fantastic Beasts has encountered in recent months due to the continued employment of Depp in this #MeToo era. Other missteps included naming the film after the character who Depp plays, Director David Yates making very poor remarks defending the actor, and J.K. Rowling’s nothing burger of a statement.

But hey… at least Harry Potter taught kids that weed is bad.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters this November.
