At Comic-Con 2015, Hypable spoke to Damien stars Bradley James and Barbara Hershey about their new A&E drama!

If you’re itching for details about A&E’s mysterious sequel to The Omen, then that makes two of us. Thankfully, we here at Hypable were able to catch up with the stars of Damien at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

See what Bradley James, Barbara Hershey and showrunner Glen Mazzara can tease about what you can expect from the show when it premieres later this year.

Though both the cast and crew are keeping tight-lipped on specifics about the show so as not to spoil the fun, we were able to get a bit of info as to what the show will entail. Specifically, Glen Mazzara said that viewers can expect a show that is very character-driven.

When we asked Mazzara to talk about which relationship he’s most excited for fans to see unfold on screen, the producer was quick to point out the dynamic between Damien (James) and Anne (Hershey), who, according to the official synopsis, is described as the most powerful woman in the world.

“What’s really been exciting is working with Bradley and Barbara, and the way that relationship felt so natural once we got it up on its feet — it was really fun to write,” said Mazzara. “That’s been something that has felt very, very satisfying write — very natural. And I think seeing these two on screen together, [they] bring out the best in each other.”

As for the Antichrist himself, actor Bradley James (Merlin‘s King Arthur) agrees with Mazzara. This probably doesn’t come as much of a shock if you’ve seen the trailer, where it looks as though Anne will be acting as Damien’s spirit guide throughout his journey of acceptance.

“The types of scenes that we’ve got so far have maybe brought about the biggest developments [in the plot],” James told Hypable. “So I would say that’s a relationship, because of its development, that really stands out.”

For her part, Barbara Hershey describes Anne’s relationship with Damien as “complicated,” and also says she’s been “sort of shocked” by what her and Damien’s characters are given to do in the script.

“I’ve been kind of blown away by the chances we’ve gotten,” said the actress. “In a way, I’m very afraid — I want you guys to get the pleasure that I get when I read the script, and I’m surprised. I want the fans to get to have that experience, and it’s a wild ride.”

As for what we can expect from Damien himself, Hershey also teased a little about what’s going on inside his head in the first season of the show.

“From the child in The Omen, [Damien] has blanked out, as far as what’s happened to him and at this moment in time. It’s like Christ supposedly taking up the mantle when he was about 30, and was crucified when he was 33. Damien is now 30, so it’s time. It’s the moment– it would be as if someone said to you, ‘You’re the Antichrist.’ What do you do with that information? And that’s what the first season is really about — his response to that and it’s really fascinating. It’s an interesting question,” said Hershey.
