Daisy Ridley’s latest fitness video features a fashion choice that proves her dedication to preserving the secrets of Star Wars: Episode VIII.
In her most recent Instagram post, Ridley performs the epic workout routine that keeps her in top Dark Side-fighting shape. But this installment of her regular “Fitness Friday” videos includes one notable difference — and it’s not that the post appeared on a Wednesday.
Proving her dedication to both her fitness and role in the Star Wars saga, Ridley moves through her entire grueling workout with a blue pillowcase tied around her head. This, of course, is no mere fashion choice (though Daisy definitely pulls it off.) Instead, the young actress informs fans that she grabbed the workout right in the middle of filming scenes for Episode VIII, and had to take a few cheeky precautions.
“Ran to t?the gym between different set ups so wore a pillowcase on my head to protect my REY HAIRSTYLE from Instagram’s gaze ?,” Ridley writes, adding the adorable hashtags #topemployee and #secrecyqueen to emphasize her point.
While a change in Rey’s hairstyle might not seem like the most pressing mystery of Episode VIII (and okay, we’d also like to know things like “Seriously, What Is Up With Luke?”) it’s a notable shift for the Star Wars heroine. The three buns Rey sported in The Force Awakens had a quirky but practical quality that made the look nearly as iconic as Princess Leia’s original cinnamon buns. Given that the still-untitled Episode VIII will pick up its story almost immediately after The Force Awakens, we can’t help but wonder what, if anything, has changed to inspire a shift in Rey’s hairstyle.
Is it a simple update in aesthetic? A chance for Luke to work on his daddy-do’s? Or could it be that Rey’s new hair suggests a new path for the character — maybe even one closer to the Dark Side?
Star Wars: Episode VIII is still more than a year distant, but fans can look forward to a few hints at Star Wars Celebration Europe, taking place next weekend in London.
