The CW is working on developing a new musical series that will put a new spin on stories of fairytale princesses called Nobody’s Princess.

The final season of the CW’s hit musical series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, might be upon us, but that doesn’t mean that the network is ready to bid farewell to the musical genre. The network has announced that it is currently developing an all-new musical series that will put a contemporary spin on the lives of fairytale princesses called Nobody’s Princess.

As Deadline reports, the series will be a musical comedy and comes from Life Sentence creators Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. Additionally, the show has enlisted songwriters and screenwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner to help bring the stories to life.

Nobody’s Princess will be set in modern-day New York City, and will focus on the story of four classic fairytale princesses. Of course, because these women are living in modern New York City, they aren’t squirreled away in a tower waiting for Prince Charming to save them. No, these women are four friends in their twenties working to change the world and discover “happily ever after” on their own terms.

We don’t yet know who the four princesses will be, or if their stories will fit a lighter narrative closer to what we see in Disney cartoons or the darker Grimm’s fairytales. However, we’re so excited to see how their fantastic fictional roots will be restructured to fit a modern narrative.

It is truly exciting to see more musical comedies finding their way to network television. Of course, after the success of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, we’re sure the CW is eager to maintain the musical theater fans such a unique and groundbreaking show brought to the network.

The show is still in early stages of development, so there is no word yet on any casting shortlists or intended release dates. However, we’ll keep you updated as more news develops about Nobody’s Princess.
