Katy Keene is adding Broadway royalty to its cast.

Update (10/3/19): According to Deadline, Tony Award winning actress Bernadette Peters has officially joined the cast of The CW’s forthcoming Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene.

The highly anticipated spinoff series (written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi) will follow the titular Katy, plus her group of friends, as they try to make it big in New York City.

For her part, Peters is set to play the role of Ms. Freesia— the mother of Katy’s friend, Pepper Smith (Saving Hope’s Julia Chan).

As we previously learned when Chan’s casting was announced, Pepper Smith is the group’s resident New York City “It Girl.” The original synopsis for Pepper also hinted at the fact that she may in fact be using her outrageous personality to throw everyone off the scent with regards to where exactly all her money is coming from.

Interestingly, the character synopsis for Peters’ Mrs. Freesia gives us another piece of the Pepper puzzle.

A “wealthy Upper East sider who secured her luxurious lifestyle through cunning means,” Mrs. Freesia is described as Pepper Smith’s “eccentrically elegant surrogate mother and mentor.”

She’s also the person that “taught Pepper in the art of the con,” and is now “actively forming Pepper in her fabulous image.”

The synopsis for Bernadette Peters’ upcoming role has definitely got us excited to see what she brings to Katy Keene!

While you wait for the series to premiere, check out more information on all of the show’s characters below!

Original Story (3/11/19): The CW’s Riverdale spinoff has cast Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale as Katy Keene herself!

In a statement, the network describes Katy Keene as “bold, big-hearted and independent […] a twenty-something New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.”

Written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, the new series is set to follow Katy Keen along with a few other friends as they hit the Big Apple and try to pursue their dreams of making it big.

Another familiar face joining Katy in the big city is none other than Josie McCoy (played by Riverdale’s Ashleigh Murray).

Josie isn’t the only one coming along for the ride, though! According to Deadline, actors Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount have both officially joined the cast of Katy Keene.

Hyde, who was last seen on Netflix’s American Vandal, will be playing a character called Alexandra Cabot in the upcoming pilot.

Alexandra is described as a chic New York City socialite who also happens to be an SVP at her father’s company. She’s respected, feared, and set to face off against her brother who doesn’t share her vision for the future of the family record label.

Scream Queens alum Lucien Laviscount will be playing the role of Alexandra’s brother, Alexander. Alexander is the CEO of his father’s company, but it sounds like he couldn’t be more different from Alexandra.

Alexander may come from a billionaire family, but he likes to keep things humble. According to the character description, he’d “rather take the subway and listen to vinyl,” and hit up the dive bar where he secretly DJs.

Alexander’s hoping he’ll be able to relaunch the record label division at his dad’s company. His dream of doing so is what will ultimately lead him to cross paths with Josie.

Hyde and Lucien Laviscount aren’t the only recent additions to the cast.

Just last week we learned that actors Johnny Beauchamp (Penny Dreadful) and Julia Chan (Saving Hope) had also joined the cast of Katy Keene.

Beauchamp will play a character named Jorge who works at his family’s bodega by day. By night, he transforms into his drag alter ego, Ginger, who performs and bartends at a local club.

Meanwhile, Chan is set to play New York City it girl Pepper Smith. Pepper is described as the “funny, magnetic life of the party.” There may be more to Pepper than meets the eye, though, and her outrageous personality may be a guise to throw people off from where she gets all her money.

There’s currently no word on when we might see Katy Keene premiere, but we’ll be looking forward to finding out more tidbits about the latest Riverdale spinoff as the series moves further and further into production!
