The CW’s Arrowverse is growing with a brand new superhero show, Batwoman starring the amazing Ruby Rose as Kate Kate, Batwoman herself.

The first trailer for the CW’s new addition to the Arrowverse is here, and honestly, we just can’t wait. The show follows Bruce Wayne’s cousin Kate Kane and her life in crime-ridden Gotham after the disappearance of Wayne and, by extension, Batman.

Kate’s father Jacob, also the head of Crows Private Security, sends her to live outside of Gotham for her own safety. However, Kate is brought back to Gotham when she learns her girlfriend and Crow security officer is kidnapped. Despite her father’s wishes for her to stay away from danger, Kate throws herself directly into the fray, bringing some vigilante justice back to Gotham.

This trailer doesn’t just give us a look into Kate Kane’s origins as Batwoman, it also gives us a look at how she gets her iconic vigilante look. Because she took over where Bruce Wayne left off before his disappearance, Kate initially hits the streets in a tailored version of Batman’s suit. However, when people start thinking it’s Batman back in Gotham, fighting crime, Kate makes a change.

She decides to change things up with her look to let people know someone new is protecting Gotham, saying, “I’m not about to let a man take credit for a woman’s work.” So she adds a killer, red wig and a bright red bat symbol to her batsuit and hits the streets.

This trailer has got us seriously pumped for Batwoman to premiere on the CW. Kate Kane first appeared on the CW as the masked vigilante in the Arroverse Elseworlds crossover event, and the fan response was so intense that it only made sense to give Batwoman her own show.

It’s also a pretty big deal that Batwoman will be a show about an openly gay woman, played by an actress who also identifies as gay and genderfluid. While she isn’t the first LGBTQIA+ character to joining the Arrowverse–after all the Arrowverse has always been a pretty diverse place, especially compared to other superhero universes–it is still great to see the CW continuing to feature heroes other than just straight, white men.

Unfortunately, we’ve got to wait a bit for Batwoman. The show is set to premiere this fall on the CW, but that should give us all plenty of time to do an Elseworlds rewatch to get ready for Kate Kane’s big arrival.
