Looking to continue their recent trend of live-action movies with classic female leads, Disney is now working on a movie following the 101 Dalmations villain Cruella de Vil.

Disney has hired the screenwriter for their live-action Cinderella movie Aline Brosh McKenna to pen this film as well. The Lily James-led fairytale just started shooting in London last week (at the link, see a first-look photo of James as the princess).

The film’s working title is Cruella, and actress Glenn Close – who played the character in the 1996 live-action Dalmations movie – is an executive producer on the new story. There’s no word yet on who could be cast in the lead role, but Close would be an obvious and safe choice for the project given her great portrayal two decades ago. The fact that she decided to come on board as a producer is also telling of her interest and protection of the character.

Andrew Gunn is the lead producer on Cruella and is best kwown for producing Freaky Friday and Bedtime Stories.

Disney is wrapping work on their live-action Maleficent which stars Angelina Jolie in the titular role and opens in theaters May 30, 2014.

Does a Cruella de Vil led movie sound appealing to you?

A release date for the film has not been set, but you our guess is you won’t see it until 2016 at the earliest.

Thanks, THR.
