Jonathan Majors may soon be squaring off against Michael B. Jordan in Creed III.

According to Deadline, Lovecraft Country vet Jonathan Majors is currently in talks to join the cast of MGM’s next installment of the Creed franchise.

Creed III is set to continue focusing on the rise of Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan)— the son of famed boxer, Apollo Creed, who’s determined to make a name for himself in the world of boxing while following in his father’s footsteps. If he officially boards the cast of the threequel, Jonathan Majors will take on the role of Adonis Creed’s next big opponent in the ring.

As with specifics with regards to the plot, further details surrounding the character Majors may play are being kept firmly under wraps for the time being.

Creed III has been making strides on the production front over the course of the past few months.

Back in March, it was announced that, in addition to returning to reprise his role as the titular boxing champ, Michael B. Jordan would also be serving as director on the threequel.

Others involved behind the camera on the third movie include Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A new Legacy) and Zach Baylin (King Richard), both of whom teamed up to write the screenplay for the film. Coogler and Baylin’s script is based on an outline by Ryan Coogler, who directed the first installment of the MGM franchise.

Creed III is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
