Universal’s monster universe expands beyond Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, and includes Creature from the Black Lagoon, which now has a screenwriter.

Some people were scratching their heads when Universal announced a shared monster universe a la Marvel’s MCU, but the studio is moving full steam ahead. We’ve gotten the trailer for The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise as our hero and Sofia Boutella as an ancient princess come to life.

Other movies previously announced include the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dracula, for starters. We also know Creature from the Black Lagoon is on the table, and according to Deadline, Aquaman screenwriter Will Beall will be taking on the script.

Of the original movie, Deadline says, “[Creature from the Black Lagoon] focused on a group of scientists on an expedition through the Amazon who discover a human-fish hybrid. Julie Adams played the leading female role of Kay Lawrence, and her portrayal helped define the scream queen genre.”

Cruise’s The Mummy hits theaters on June 9, 2017.
