Crazyhead, the Buffy-esque supernatural series starring Susan Wokoma and Cara Theobold, won’t return for season 2.

Part Buffy the Vampire Slayer, part Misfits and part Lollipop Chainsaw, Howard Overman’s Crazyhead was an off-beat teenage dramedy with badass girls kicking demon ass.

But, alas, the British dramedy series never truly found its audience, remaining mostly under the radar; a word-of-mouth treasure that will (hopefully) gain the cult status it deserves.

Following a highly entertaining first season, broadcast in the U.K. on E4 and streamed on Netflix for international audiences, star Susan Wokoma has revealed on Twitter that the series won’t be back for round 2:

Ironically, this came following a BuzzFeed article that (rightly) tried to draw attention to it as one of Netflix’s hidden gems.

The series followed Amy (Theobold), a bowling alley worker with the ability to ‘see’ demons disguising themselves as human, and Raquel (Wokoma), a self-made demon hunter who embarks on a mission to make Amy her friend and co-hunter.

The six-episode first season sees Amy and Raquel begin to comprehend the true magnitude of what they’re up against, all the while forming a genuine friendship as they experience some truly gnarly, harrowing things together. Disturbing, badass, touching and epic, Crazyhead deserved a much bigger audience than it had.

Even though it’s been canceled, Crazyhead is still well worth a watch — and hopefully, there’ll be a time and place where this story can continue!
