The new comedy television series The Crazy Ones which made its debut last fall is struggling yet again with meager ratings.

After the premiere episode accumulated over 15.51 million viewers on CBS last year, the ratings gradually plunged down the drain after a few episodes aired. I personally found all episodes of The Crazy Ones to be rather bland in collision with other comedy shows such as the newbie Mom and How I Met Your Mother. I tried not giving up on the show but The Crazy Ones is simply uninteresting. I solely watched the show for Sarah Michelle Gellar since I am a huge fan of hers and have been following her since I was seven years old. Undoubtedly, Gellar’s acting is amazing on The Crazy Ones but despite that, the show is unappealing in so many ways.

One of the key reasons as to why the The Crazy Ones has not been able to keep up with the audience is on account of the show’s repetitive storylines and monotonous shooting locations. The show usually takes place in the advertising agency, Roberts & Roberts, which makes the series rather less stimulating. Secondly, Robin Williams is not a good actor in my opinion. His on-screen presence is somewhat mundane. Whenever I come across William’s acting on The Crazy Ones, all I see is him trying too hard to recall his lines from the script. His expressionless face throughout the mid season of the show has disappointed me as a fan. Brad Garrett is as bad as Robin Williams on the show. It is not Garret’s fault either! The scriptwriters should be blamed for everything. I would have personally loved if Jim Carey had been cast as the lead alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in The Crazy Ones. They would have made a great brother-sister on the show. Let’s face it, Robin Williams is getting old and should probably think of retiring from the film industry soon.

Another significant factor that has contributed towards the show’s decline in ratings is the poor choice of writers. Take for example Sarah Michelle Gellar’s iconic television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It is considered a cult classic, even today! The man behind this heroic show, Joss Whedon struggled hard to deliver something new and different to the audience every week. This was the main reason why the show went on to become a huge success for The WB and UPN. Sadly, The Crazy Ones lacks the charm that people look up to in television shows these days. The new television series, Mom has been brilliantly written considering that it debuted the same month as David Kelley’s The Crazy Ones. Mom has that unique essence which keeps the viewers glued to the screen throughout the entire episode.

There were two or three episodes of The Crazy Ones that I really enjoyed, but the show stumbled badly after its fourteenth episode. Sadly, the show has not been able to please many fans.

Several guest appearances made by notable actors and musicians throughout the series have had a positive impact on the ratings. Unfortunately, the show lacks sugar, spice and everything nice. David E. Kelley needs to bring in fresh writers for the show. The scripts need to be revamped if the series gets renewed. In addition, the show should step aside from the world of advertising for a while and emphasize other factors that would add flavor.

Recently CBS cancelled several shows from its lineup but has not yet declared whether The Crazy Ones will get renewed or cancelled. CBS’ verdict for the show will be announced sometime this month. Even if The Crazy Ones gets renewed for a second season, it will continue to struggle with ratings and eventually get axed by CBS sooner or later. We might as well just hope the show gets cancelled by the network this year.
