The cover for book 2 in the Heartland Trilogy, titled Blightborn, has been revealed by author Chuck Wendig.

Check out the cover below, which was revealed on Wendig’s blog.

The cover was created by the wonderfully talented Shane Rebenschied and features his usual ethereal style. The cover shows us what the Heartland Trilogy world looks like away from the fields.

Wendig says of the second novel in his latest series, “This book was a blast to write, and is almost twice as large as the first book in the series. As the cover suggests, it takes readers up off the ground and out of the corn and into the skies as we follow Gwennie and Merelda onto one of the flotillas — and meanwhile, we get to meet the Blight Witch, the Sleeping Dogs, the Peregrine, a Pegasus, another Pegasus, Erasmus the Grackle…”

Intriguing! Wendig also says Blightborn is currently available as a pre-order on Amazon. And if you pre-order before the release day, July 29, you’ll get an exclusive short story titled, “The Wind Has Teeth Tonight,” which centers around Gwennie.

Wendig’s first book in the Heartland Trilogy was titled Under the Empyrean Sky and followed Cael McAvoy as he lived life in the Heartland, scavenging for parts, sneaking off with his childhood sweeheart, and keeping the corn at bay.

Oh, did we not mention the only crop the Empyrean allows the Heartlanders to grow is Hiram’s Golden Prolific, a strain of corn that’s not even edible and actually moves on its own? Maybe we should’ve started out with that one.

You can read our review of Under the Empyrean Sky, which we found strange, enticing, and delightful. We were also able to chat with Wendig last August, and he had a few more hints at what we can expect in Blightborn.
