The book to TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike series has reportedly found its lead.

Update: It’s official! Variety has confirmed that Burke will take on the role. They received the following remarks from Burke and Rowling.

“I’m overjoyed to be immersing myself in the role of Cormoran Strike, who is as complex as he is larger than life,” said Burke. “I know I’m joining an extraordinary team of people on a series that for me is peppered with moments of real emotional depth and meticulously grounded in the page-turning momentum of these novels. Cormoran’s world is rich and raw.”

Added Rowling, “I’m thrilled about the casting of Tom Burke, a massively talented actor who’ll bring the character to perfect life. Cormoran Strike is pure joy to write, and I can’t wait to see Tom play him.”

The adaptation will play out as follows: The Cuckoo’s Calling will be told over three one-hour episodes, and the sequels The Silkworm and Career of Evil will each run for two, one-hour episodes.

Original story: A new article in The Sunday Times mentions in passing that Tom Burke, known for his role in BBC’s The Musketeers, has been cast as war vet and detective Cormoran Strike.

As you can see from the photos above and below, Burke, who’s 35, can pull off a great scruffy look, which fits Cormoran perfectly. He’s also the same age as Cormoran Strike, who’s in his mid-30s.

Filming on what BBC is dubbing The Cormoran Strike Mysteries is expected to begin filming later this year for a 2017 television premiere. The first season will cover the first three books from Rowling: The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, and Career of Evil.

Now that Cormoran Strike has been cast, we bet it’s only a matter of time until we learn who’s playing his assistant-turned-friend and partner, Robin.

Meanwhile, Rowling is currently at work on Cormoran Strike Book 4. The latest novel in her detective series doesn’t have a release date, but we’re currently expecting it to be published sometime in 2017.

Burke is also known for roles in the TV mini-series War & Peace and the 2013 film Only God Forgives starring Ryan Gosling.

The BBC also adapted Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, which was her first post-Potter novel. The mini-series went to HBO in the United States.
