Constantine season 1, episode 3, “The Devil’s Vinyl,” airs tonight, and boy do we have some good teases for this episode.

Constantine is still trying to find its footing, but considering it’s only on its third episode, that’s pretty normal. Tonight’s episode, however, may just be a game-changer. It introduces some iconic characters, continues to add to the ones already established, and offers an abundance of two of our favorite things on this show — humor and blood.

Here are five highlights from tonight’s episode that we can share with you. (Beware of light spoilers.)

1. Blood and guts

Constantine isn’t your grandmother’s daytime soap opera, and we’re glad about that. This show is dark and gritty and a little bit rude (kind of like John). Tonight’s episode will offer up its creepiest and bloodiest scenes yet. If you’ve got a weak stomach, make sure you prepare yourself for what’s to come. It ain’t pretty.

2. More magic

Constantine’s world is richly detailed, and “The Devil’s Vinyl” gives us even more sneak peeks into how this universe operates and what John is capable of. The devil’s vinyl aside, we see John using a few more bits and bobs, explaining to Zed how they all work. There may even be a man-purse containing said bits and bobs.

3. More John and Zed

Don’t get us wrong, we loved meeting Zed in last week’s episode, but considering the number of times Constantine ditched her, it didn’t allow for much development of their relationship. Episode 3 changes all that. Zed tracks John down, and he once again reluctantly allows her to tag along. She proves herself useful, much to John’s annoyance, and we get the push and pull relationship front and center, just like we wanted.

4. Callback to Mucous Membrane

Another thing Constantine is doing right is giving us plenty of throwbacks to the Hellblazer comics. John’s band Mucous Membrane gets a shoutout in tonight’s episode, and even though it’s only briefly mentioned, we love any insights into John’s past. (Learn more here.)

Papa Midnite

You better believe we get the enigmatic voodoo priest in full force tonight. We won’t spoil how he’s involved in this week’s plot, but just know that his persona demands to be noticed. He’s a sly guy, and he doesn’t take Constantine’s crap. Expect him to be a dangerous adversary for anyone who stands in his way.

How excited are you for ‘Constantine’ season 1, episode 3, ‘The Devil’s Vinyl’?
