NBC has released its promotional material for the second episode of Constantine, and we finally have our best look at Zed Martin yet.

Trick or treat? We’re certainly hoping for both as Constantine’s second episode hits our screens on All Hallows’ Eve. He’s already showcased some trickery — those flames he manipulated at the end of the premiere made for an impressive display — but we can’t help but want to be treated to some more of that wickedly naughty wit. Okay, we’re done with the Halloween puns. We promise.

The premiere threw us straight into the action, as it introduced the rich and dangerous world of Angels and Demons that Constantine has been navigating as a Master petty dabbler of the Dark Arts (he’s getting new cards made). If you need a reminder of what happened last week, you can read our recap here.

This week will see Angélica Celaya join the cast as Zed, the woman we caught a glimpse of at the end of the premiere, desperately sketching John Constantine’s likeness over and over.

‘The Darkness Beneath’ synopsis

“AN ANCIENT SPIRIT TORMENTS A PENNSYLVANIA MINING TOWN — JAMES LEGROS GUEST STARS — Deep in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania, John (Matt Ryan) is a small mining community’s only defense against an ancient Welsh spirit. In the course of protecting these isolated innocents, John finds a vital new ally in a mysterious young woman named Zed (Angélica Celaya). Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford also star.”

Episode stills

The promotional stills for the episode show Constantine and Zed getting a little dirty, perhaps in pursuit of the demon through the mines? Whatever it is, it doesn’t look like that stuff is going to wash out.

Episode promo and sneak peek

Zed isn’t about to let Constantine have all the fun, by the look of these videos — as John says, “She’s as tough as they come.” Though he doesn’t initially seem to believe her intentions are honourable. Can’t con the con artist?

Constantine season 1, episode 2, “The Darkness Beneath,” airs Friday, October 31 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
