Despite heavy competition from Game 3 of the World Series, Constantine’s premiere episode performed well in the ratings.

The latest DC comic book adaption to hit our television screens is off to a solid start, premiering to good ratings against the 2014 World Series over on Fox — which won the night with a mighty 9.9 million viewers.

Constantine itself enjoyed a 4.3 million share in viewers and scored a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic for its 10 p.m. timeslot, according to a report from Variety. This also means that the show had a 90% retention of the same demographic from its lead-in show, Grimm. Not too shabby.

Those numbers gave John Constantine a good head start on the Cancellation Bear, though we’re not seeing him achieve Barry Allen speeds just yet. Maybe we need to get him a Red Bull?

Hopefully Constantine will be able hold on to that strong start as it moves into its second episode, though it may have some hurdles to overcome. The second episode will see the arrival of Zed Martin, taking the place of the now departed Liv — a major character in the premiere episode, who served as our introduction into all things supernatural. We have faith, however, that the shake up will only mean good things for the show.

Did the forces of darkness prevent you from being able to catch the premiere episode? Well, you’re in luck. Both Amazon and iTunes are offering up the episode for free, so you can easily catch up ahead of the second episode this Friday.

But what about for our friends across the pond? There’s good news for anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription in the U.K.! The service has grabbed the exclusive rights to the show, after striking a deal with Warner Bros International Television Distribution. The first episode is available to stream right now, with subsequent episodes being added every Saturday — less than 24 hours following their original air date on NBC. It’s fantastic news for Hellblazer fans.

Constantine joins an impressive line of first run shows that are exclusive to the service. Aside from the Halle Berry starred Extant, Amazon Prime Instant Video is also home to Vikings, Black Sails, and Crossing Lines. Investing in the service is becoming a far more viable option for anyone wanting to enjoy some great offerings.
